If someone takes a drop that was previously assigned to you because you were afk then thats your own fault IMO. I don't consider that "stealing" at all, the time period for you to pick up the drop expired someone waited to see if you claimed it yet you did not so they took it thats perfectly reasonable imo.
Its similar to how in the real world, if someone finds $1000 on the ground and turns it into the police, a waiting period of something like 30 days is established and the fact that the money was found(where and when) is announced to the public. If no one claims the money after the 30days the original finder gets to keep it. Thats not "stealing"
Personally I wouldn't wait for a drop unless it was something extremely special. I don't feel like wasting 10 mins of time especially when there is a strong chance the afk player may return after 8 or 9 mins picking up their drop and thus making my wait a complete waste of time.
Now a completely different story is the idea of people refusing res someone and then stealing their drop because they were dead. That, IMO is completely and uterly stealing.

The fact remains that if he himself fought for it while you were afk, he has the right to take its since he fought for it and you were just getting a freebie if you came back in time. Im guessing that you didn't join when they were fighting, so if thats the case then he or anyone who fought for it deserved it.
In any other case, the five minute thing is really for leechers in my opinion. Usually if a person is afk for 5 minutes hes leeching..not saying this is everytime.
Also to add, im sure that GW players are greedy, its just human nature. Ive gotten scammed out of at least 400k total through the years i have played. But its just a game so... it doesn't really matter all that much to me

Well, I have done it in the past. And have seen it done to other people. I don't quite remember havint it happen to me. I have also seen monks refusing to rez when a good drop drops for a dead player, then wait the 10 minutes to pick it up. Golds, gems, and the ilk.
I feel bad about doing it in the past, and will probably never do it again. Unless, of course, said player leaves the instance. Then it's fair game.

the first one was good hte 2nd one with assigned drops = Biggest nerf EVER!
ruined the whoel fun imo as opposed to everyone scrambling around going for presents everyone just were semi afk collecting the drops every 30s-1min
the not-ressing to get a drop is pretty scummy imo, as there job was to fight and there job was to heal, doesn't seem fair but those are the chances when taking pugs i guess.

Haha, about the dragon festival. I loved camping presents before the "assigned nerf". Yeah it could be called greed, but I called it a sport. In my opinion, i'd rather have the 150+ presents than the 30 presents from assigned drops =p. Hey, atleast i'm honest.

Who is talkign about the law, I'm considering the situation. And an analogy needs to be similar not precisely the same to work. In areas near to where I live the attitude of some is that if a place is left unoccupied they think its ok to break in and do as they wish. Laws vary as well from region to region so for you to say the law doesn't work that way is inaccurate. Squatting for example is not prohibited in some areas.
Also your implication is that just because something is not illegal then its isn't wrong to do it. Just because the mechanics work a certain way shouldn't mean that you exploit them in a way that is underhand.

Personally I think this is all about right or wrong, but taking those drops wouldnt happen if everyone would be rewarded enough, but then again there are those whose greed is never sated. I wouldnt take it laugh at the pathetic person who would steal in a game probally rub it in his face then drop some gold to see if he picks it up, if he does il laugh even harder.

For me personally I would collect it and leave a message saying: Contact me for your items when you get back - I'll hold them for X amount of time.
As far as other drops (Whites and blues) if they don't collect them or complain about me collecting them then I will do it 98% of the time. But to me, rares and greens are another story.

People don't have the right. Oh, and im one of those few good guys...If im the last one alive after we kill a mob, with no way to rez, I wait for the drops, and then give them to the owner after. I for one play guild wars for the friend ships and the memories, not for the extra shard..
